Yet, hometown heroes Eyehategod paved the way for an enduringly nihilistic take on all-American rock-'n'-roll now known as sludge. I never got really far into sludge metal and am good with some of the staples in the genre including Melvins, Acid Bath, Grief, and Buzzov*en. Somewhere between not caring about anything and caring just enough to piss people off is the space where Eyehategod lives and squats in some burned out apartment building. Acid, ski masks, Cash Money Rappers, pills, fleas, and a whole bunch of young nihilism all swirl around a record that is perhaps defining in the idea of sludge metal being the runoff from despondency and anti social behavior. Reading the entry in Precious Metal, regarding the making of this album, shows a band that both deeply cared about making their second record as well as not giving a fuck about anything. It is labor day and if one would like to track down the actual release for this degenerate album, go for it. So the Wikipedia entry has this album released in November but MA says September.
